Abstract

This document is a research and development effort into the viability of setting Mayon Volcano on an international platform as a global tourist destination. Known for its historical and cultural significance to the surrounding locals, its conical form, and its geographic location in the tropics of the Philippines, Mayon has great potential in becoming one of the best natural volcanic wonders of the world. This Tourism Destination Development Plan (TDDP) branches into sets of studies to ultimately visualize Mayon as one of Philippine’s top tourism products.

Introduction

This document is a research and development effort into the viability of setting Mayon Volcano on an international platform as a global tourist destination. Part II,

Tourism Analyses and Opportunities looks deeply into the current stature of the macro and micro perspectives of Mount Mayon and the vicinities that grew with an within it. The Philippine regional aspects of Mount Mayon and its surrounding geographic formations, the familiar cultures of the settlements of its circumambient, the modernization and urbanization taking effect within economical views, and the socio-geographical observations within the competitive cities that have represented the volcanic marvel are introduced and acknowledged. These are figured, illustrated, and examined through place-specific tourism “lenses.”


The Opportunities and Goals are growth factors that embark the tourism potential into place. This section of the study identifies key issues and challenges and reframing them as windows of improvement through critical and creative methods and thinking.


There are technical dimensions to this phase of the research, wherein theories and growth concepts are solidified into geographic information and data visualizations which structuralize the objectives concluded to reach relevant goals of this plan.


Seen appropriately by the researchers of this document as a critical pursuit and additional to this TDDP’s understanding of global phenomena in Part I, a comprehensive touchstone is set as standard-building wherein case studies are bestowed for the betterment of the development proper. These sections give regard to a critical point of view of international and domestic presentations that contribute to the validity of the development processes. In effect, this implies new knowledge and an opportunity to learn from historical and established scenarios that can be applied for the tourism destination development of Mt. Mayon.
